When Ben returns home to his father's funeral after 13 years away, he is confronted with uncomfortable truths about the past, present and future of the community and the family he grew up in and left behind. Anders Lustgarten's new play is a funny, eclectic, and uniquely political piece of theatre that brings a fresh perspective to some of the political divides and problems facing our country today.

The City and the Town was commissioned by Riksteatern and Matthew Linley Creative Projects, with financial support from the British Council and Arts Council England.
The City and the Town was first performed at Hull Truck Theatre on 10 February 2023. It will be re-presented in a Swedish version, with translation by Anders Duus, a Swedish cast, and the original creative team, on a tour of Sweden in autumn 2023.
