Bright Star

CANADIAN PROFESSIONAL PREMIERE
Music, Book & Story by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell
Produced by Garner Theatre Productions
Presented by Mirvish Productions in the 2025-2026 Off-Mirvish Season
Performed at the CAA Theatre in Toronto, Canada from September 30th - November 2nd, 2025
Inspired by a true story and featuring a Tony® Award-nominated score, Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion.

An uplifting theatrical journey, refreshingly genuine and daringly hopeful, Bright Star, produced by Garner Theatre Productions, is performed by an all-Canadian cast of multi-talented Actor-Musicians in a stunning new production that will hold you tightly in its grasp.

4 stars (out of 4) - The Toronto Star

In a richly textured production at the CAA Theatre, "Bright Star" uses bluegrass and live instrumentation to illuminate the complexities of love and resilience in the American South.
Director Jacob Wolstencroft takes the show from charming down-home musical to profound work of art. A production like this needs careful direction, and Wolstencroft is in complete control.
